BloomThis, Malaysia’s on-demand online florist and purveyor of gifts  announced the launch of its debut CSR initiative, ‘Jobs For Community’, in conjunction with International Women’s Day.

This initiative is in partnership with a cause-driven, Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) Pertubuhan Pembangunan Kendiri Wanita dan Gadis (WOMEN:girls) to provide upskilling training to women from the B40 community through a three-month paid apprenticeship program.

With the long term goal to not only provide job opportunities but also to increase the future employability of its participants by providing them an opportunity to earn necessary skills in the florist industry such as floral & gifts handcrafting as well as logistics & operations, this initiative targets women from the age of 18 to 40 years old.

Co-Founder and Managing Director of BloomThis, Penny Choo

“This CSR initiative was inspired by the situation that was sparked off by the movement-control-order during the early days of the pandemic, which was when we started our internal effort to provide job opportunities for both the community and smaller businesses in 2020,” said Co-Founder and Managing Director of BloomThis, Penny Choo.

“BloomThis is devoted to improving the lives of those in need and we want to encourage them to achieve a better social & economic status through upskilling efforts.

“We envision BloomThis to be a homegrown brand who would invest heavily in forming partnerships with organisations, individuals, or NGO like WOMEN:girls to empower the local community by providing them with tools and access to appropriate living skills through apprenticeship training which will subsequently enable them to secure quality jobs with us or with others in the future,” added Choo.

The collaboration between BloomThis and WOMEN:girls will help to accelerate the awareness of this initiative in its efforts to reach out to more beneficiaries who can benefit from the initiative.

Executive Director of WOMEN:girls, Izza Izelan.

“Part of our mission at WOMEN:girls has always been to relieve barriers and realise the options that unemployed women have,” said Executive Director of WOMEN:girls, Izza Izelan.

“We recognise that there is a need for a structured program to help build the career journey for women through mentoring and learning on the field with key industry leaders, to support and equip them with skills in specialised areas. Through ‘Jobs for Community’ we see an opportunity to help future-proof the apprentices’ careers and change the trajectory of their lives for the better,” she shared.

Through this initiative, BloomThis aims to achieve and align their goal to support United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) especially Goal 1 (No Poverty), Goal 5 (Gender Equality and Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth).

During the 3-month program, the participants will undergo hands-on training that will equip them with the necessary skills to secure jobs in the industry. Following are the recruitment period for five (5) different cohorts for 2022, starting from April until December 2022:

The 3-months apprenticeship program will be carried out at BloomThis’ facility in Petaling Jaya, Selangor and participants will be provided with a monthly basic wage during the apprenticeship program. BloomThis aims to absorb at least 20 participants as its fixed-term contract employees by the end of the program.
