The Selangor State Government through Tourism Selangor was proud to become the State Medical Tourism Sponsor for Medical Travel Market Intelligence Conference 2021 (insigHT2021); the region’s leading intelligence conference.
Tourism Selangor, with the vision to penetrate and foster the medical tourism segmentation, has a clear route as the state is home to number of hospitals and healthcare centres, including 19 which are registered under the Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC).
InsigHT2021, in conjunction with the World Hepatitis Day 2021 and its theme; “Hepatitis Can’t Wait, featured the launch of Malaysia as the Hepatitis C Treatment Hub of Asia by Minister of Health Malaysia, Y.B. Khairy Jamaluddin during its opening ceremony on Tuesday.
The 3-day International Conference was hosted virtually from 16 to 18 November this year and anchored by MHTC, an agency under the Ministry of Health (MOH) tasked to facilitate and promote the healthcare travel industry in Malaysia.
Carrying the theme ‘Forging Resilience’, this year’s conference featured insights on post-pandemic recovery strategies and opportunities for industry resilience with topics such as reimaging the health system, the future of healthcare and well-being, and rebuilding hospitality delivered by renowned local and international industry experts.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Tourism Selangor, Mr. Azrul Shah Mohamad, in a statement shared, that healthcare travel is a multi-billion industry which has been affected by the global Covid-19 pandemic.
“There is a whole new norm to travelling now, however hospitals and healthcare centres, as well as travel industry players in Selangor are now carefully re-welcoming patients, in preparation to providing the best healthcare and medical experience.
“Hospitals and healthcare centres in Selangor are well-equipped with top-notch medical equipment, offering high-standard service quality and medical treatments to medical tourists; making Selangor the preferred medical tourism destination in the region,” he added.
Meanwhile, CEO of MHTC, Mr. Mohd Daud Mohd Arif shared that Insight has played a significant role as a platform for creating tangible and valuable outcomes, which benefit industry players and healthcare travellers.
“Having endured the brunt of the pandemic, it is even more important now to optimise platforms such as these in revitalising our industry.
“In its sixth installation, insigHT2021 also serves as a catalyst for cross collaboration, attracting industry players across various sectors of the value chain to enhance Malaysia’s healthcare travel industry”.
Selangor is home to 46 elite and ordinary hospitals which have been attracting health tourists around the world to come to the State for the best medical treatment and experience.
Among the well sought-after medical treatments in Selangor include Cardiology, fertility, and cancer treatments, especially at flagship Medical Tourism Hospitals. Selangor is also a preferred destination for aged and senior care.
